Your computer may be infected

The numbers and types of malicious software such as adware and spyware have increased to such a great extent that your computer may be infected even without your knowledge. This deceptive software is slipped quietly by certain websites that you visit while surfing the Internet.

Sometimes the users themselves are to be blamed for inviting trouble. They get carried away by offers of free software, and download them without realizing that they have also an uninvited guest.

The presence of adware on your computer leads to the display of scores of annoying pop-up ads. These ads try to tempt you into clicking on them by their appealing vibrancy and interesting offers. But clicking on them is inviting trouble. You will end up on rogue websites that would slip malicious software into your system.

Adware also causes you to receive a high amount of junk. The result: you spend almost double the time that you normally would on cleaning junk mail, and shutting pop ups. Your system too slows down because of adware.

The presence of spyware is even more serious. Spyware, as the name suggests, acts as a spy and records all your personal information. This could include tracking the sites you visit, your chat logs, your passwords or even highly confidential stuff such as your credit card numbers. The information is then transmitted to the "spy", that is the user or company who invented that particular spyware.

The best way to rid yourself of adware and spyware is to download a good spyware detector or an anti-virus program that comes with an adware detection and removal system. You must ensure that these safety programs are obtained from established vendors. You also need to constantly upgrade your anti adware / anti spyware programs to effectively counter the newest malware. You could also set up a firewall to filter all files that are entering your system, and delete the corrupted ones.

The best way to avoid getting more adware and spyware is by avoiding downloading freeware. You should also not click on pop-up ads, no matter how tempting they may seem. Even if you have to download particular software, make sure you have it scanned for possible malware, and also read the end user license agreement carefully for hidden clauses. Similarly if you are interested in something a pop up ad has to offer you, do a key search for it instead of clicking on the ad.
