Luckily, most operating systems have built-in support tools. For example, Microsoft Windows has various help menus that allow you to search help topics by keywords. Top Five Worst Viruses and How to Protect Your Computer against Them

0

Trying to pick out the worst five computer viruses is much like giving a person a choice of execution methods: firing squad, hanging, electrocution, gas chamber, all are hideous. But let's talk about a few of the most well known offenders.

The Sasser and Netsky works were created by an 18 year old named Sven Jaschan, a native of Waffensen, Germany. Jaschan was a member of what was called the Skynet Gang, a group of hackers who enjoyed writing these works, which authorities say delivered a crushing blow to corporate networks and internet users around the world. Police said that the Skynet Gang delivered the most significant virus attacks in 2004. Other worms that have caused great harm are the FunLove and SirCam worms, which arrive in a person's email box and can send themselves to different users in a computer's address book. Another notorious worm was CodeRed, which jumped from one computer to another.

However, when you do know the definition of an operating system, you can better understand what it is doing inside your computer to make it run and to make using it easier for you.

In its basic form, the definition of an operating system is as follows: a set of computer programs that manage the hardware and software resources of a computer system. Do People Know Where Your Are on the Web?

0

The question is, "can you be tracked down on the internet?"

Your IP address is no secret. It's a basic part of internet communication protocols to send your IP address whenever you connect to another site, request a web page, chat, play an online game, etc. Without your IP address, the computer on the other end wouldn't know where to send the reply.

But that doesn't mean that Evildoers can find your house if they know your IP address. Each time you go online (if you have dialup) or each time you start your computer (Cable or DSL) you are assigned an IP address, randomly selected from a pool of IP's assigned to your Internet service provider (ISP).

Top Five Spyware Threats to Internet Security

0

Spyware means any program that can change your computer system while gathering information about your activities while you are on the computer. The information is usually sent to the spyware creator via your internet connection without your knowledge. In order for it to work correctly, it must be able to run without the user shutting the computer down. Being hidden also helps the program to get installed in the first place. Because of this, spyware is usually disguised as a Trojan horse. This is a program that quietly runs in the background, inviting the user to run it, while spreading its malicious code. This code can do any number of things. It can start right away or it may simply install a program that won't start for sometime. Once it does start, it can delete all of the files on the computer or it can infect the computer and try to infect other computers on the network. There are a number of ways spyware is delivered, and as a Trojan horse is the most common. It usually comes with other pieces of software that a user might find interesting. This software is usually shared through a file-sharing network or downloadable off of the internet. Once the user installs the software, the spyware also gets installed.
